Discovery Air Tours & Scenic Flights To:
Arches & Canyonlands, Utah

ARCHES & CANYONLANDS CLASSIC WING SAFARI

The Arches/Canyonlands Classic Wing Safari is a journey to another world. Indeed, "spectacular" is undoubtedly the superlative most often used to describe the overpowering canyon country of the Colorado Plateau. To show the landscape off to best advantage, the Arches/Canyonlands Wing Safari concentrates on the geologic wonderland of northwest New Mexico, southwest Colorado, and southeast Utah. The trip begins with a 7 a.m. departure from Santa Fe, NM. Have your camera ready! The morning flight includes the canyons of the Rio Grande, Chama River, Gallinas River, Largo Wash, Mesa Verde, lower Dolores River, and the Colorado River, emphasizing much of the most beautiful yet rarely-seen water-sculptured table-country in North America. The photo-flight continues over the breath-taking cliffs, fins, buttes, mesas, and gorges of northern Canyonlands National Park. After landing at Moab, Utah, members of the expedition relish a morning ground tour of Arches National Park. Savor a picnic lunch while surrounded by the grandeur of arched redrock, laminated sandstone crevasses, and wind-carved sedimentary spires. Tour members return to their safari aircraft by early afternoon for direct flight back to Santa Fe, enjoying a great overview of the Four Corners Region enroute. Land by 4 p.m. A stirring exploration of incomprehensible magnitude back through 250 million years of terrestrial evolution. $699/person, 3-fare minimum. Package includes all flying, ground tour, park entrance fee, and picnic lunch. (Top of Page)

ARCHES & CANYONLANDS PREMIER WING SAFARI

The Arches/Canyonlands Premier Wing Safari includes all of the sites and activities of the Classic itinerary above, plus scenic reconnoitering of the Mancos River canyons, Dolores River canyons, La Sal Mountains, and Fisher's Towers. An incredible skytrek all the way to Arches and back to Santa Fe -- a different route of flight each direction! Offering twice the visual impact, this wing safari unveils an extraordinary array of additional wilderness, deserts, and canyons of southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. A geologist's paradise; a photographer's dream! The air/land adventure explores landforms of inexpressible magnificence, revealing a Grand Country of manifold mysteries idealy comprehended by aerial perspective. $899/person, 2-fare minimum. ARCHES - CANYONLANDS - MONUMENT VALLEY SKY QUEST

The Arches - Canyonlands - Monument Valley Sky Quest is a once-in-a-lifetime survey flight, encompassing the best of southeastern Utah and the Four Corners Region. The air tour begins with a 7 a.m. departure from Santa Fe, NM. The airventure heads up the Rio Grande, Chama River, and over the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, before following Canyon Largo and scouting the Aztec Ruins area of northwest New Mexico. Then the wing safari crosses into southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah, flying over Mesa Verde Country, the Dolores River, Fisher's Towers, and Arches National Park. Following a landing at Moab, Utah, for refreshment, the skytour heads south, over Canyonlands, the Colorado River, Dark Canyon, Bear's Ears, Natural Bridges, Grand Gulch Plateau, Cedar Mesa, and the Goosenecks of the San Juan River. Land at Monument Valley, UT, for lunch at historic trading post and lodge, overlooking the Navajo tribal park. After takeoff, the special safari aircraft heads east, over painted deserts, orange sandstone buttes, time-chiseled monuments, and deep twisting ravines of northeastern Arizona, highlighting en route the world-famous pastel colors and formations of Navajoland. The flight then ventures across commanding magenta-stained rim rock, lost gorges, concealed Anasazi Indian cave ruins, magnificient Gateway Arch, the stark San Juan Basin desert, sculpted Bisti Badlands, and the volcanic cliffs, craters, and crevasses of the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico. Return to Santa Fe around 3:30 p.m. Recommended for seasoned air travelers, this is the sky adventure for aviation buffs looking for the ultimate in canyon and desert flying. This vast, overwhelming, upthrust wilderness-country can rightly be described as "the Alaska of the Southwest." Long before even the first leg of the trip is over, one's vocabulary to describe the journey will simply fade away, but the visual and emotional impact will remain for the rest of one's life. One of the world's greatest scenic flights! $999/person, 2-fare minimum. Package includes all flying and lunch in the field. Optional private ground tour with picnic available at Monument Valley (add $100/person). (Top of Page)
